Fun Activities for Mom and Baby - Laura Sosa: Fit Mom, Fit House

Fun Activities for Mom and Baby

Since I've become a mom I've wanted to be as active as possible, always looking into things that my son and I can do together to socialize with others and get out of the house occasionally. Over the past 9 months, I've found a few things that have been really fun for us to participate in so I thought I'd share!

Stroller Strides
This is a great way to not only get in a really good, full body workout, but it's also a fantastic opportunity for both moms and babies/children to be socially active. Moms with children of all ages attend and so far every one I have met has been extremely nice. Most work-outs run the same: warm-up, work out, cool down, then let the kids play and the women chat! The best part about this organization is that your first class is free, so even if you can't afford to do more you can at least get in one great workout!

AMC Bring your Baby Matinee
One of the more recent play dates I went on with my fellow mommy friends was to the AMC Bring your Baby showing. With this program, AMC has one special showing a month for parents who want to go to the movies but have to bring their baby(s). And the nice thing is that AMC has thought of great ways to accommodate these parents by providing stroller parking, allowing breastfeeding, leaving on low lighting, and lowering the volume of the showing. It was a nice afternoon, doing "normal" stuff with our babies.

Sign4Baby San Diego
Another activity we are starting in July that will be a fun and unique way to meet other people and have my son be around babies his age is during sign language classes. Not only will he have fun exploring the interactions of other babies around him, but he'll be learning a new activity as well. Sign language for babies has many benefits, including a faster rate of learning to speak and easier communication between baby and parent. A great location in San Diego that always has rave reviews is Sign4Baby. But sign language for babies is becoming more and more prominent across the country, so you can easily find a class near you!

Play Groups
Play groups are one of the easiest (and cheapest!) ways to allow yourself and your children to socialize outside of the home. Many of our play groups involve trips to the zoo, parks, each others homes and even the mall. Find one in your area on websites such as meetup.com!

If you have any suggestions on additional ways to get out and have fun with your little ones, leave them here!

Happy Playing,

Laura
